Sewer Connections:

Permits are required for all sewer tie-ins, along with an approved town licensed drain layer to perform the work. Applications and criteria for connection information, a list of licensed Drain Layers, as well as our policy on dedicated non-sewer use meter installation(s) are available at the Sewer Department Office.

The use of dedicated meters to measure non-sewer use water, for consumption adjustment is allowed when permitted through the Sewer Department.

Fees:

Sewer Connection Permits:
Residential properties that have received a "Betterment Assessment", will have a connection permit fee of one hundred fifty-dollars ($150.00) per connection. Businesses, $500.00 per unit. Industrial, $1,000.00 per unit.

System's Development Fee:
A "System Development" fee for new residential construction, or renovation of existing structures that will increase the previous flow by more than 50%, is $3,500.00 per dwelling unit, plus the connection fee. More than one dwelling unit on the same property shall be subject to additional charges. For new construction or renovation of existing structures that will increase the previous flow by more than five hundred gallons per day, fees must be paid in full at the time of the request for the Application for Building Permit. For existing structures, fees may be paid, with interest, over a period of ten (10) years.

System Development fee for commercial property is $5,000.00 per unit up to 10,000 square feet. Above 10,000 square feet shall be subject to additional charges beyond the original $5,000.00 to be set by the Board on a "case-by-case" basis.

Those areas requiring a Pump station are subject to a maintenance fee of $30,000.00 prior to the Town's acceptance.

Sump Pumps:

Connection of sump pumps to the sewer system is strictly prohibited. Sump pumps contribute substantially to excess water (I & I or Inflow and Infiltration) in the system and add to the annual user fees of the municipal sewer system, which may result in fines to the Town from the Rockland and/or Brockton Treatment Plants.

Those considering purchasing or selling a home in Abington will need to have a sump pump inspection. All houses may be inspected before sale and all houses seeking building permits will be inspected as well. The Commission will assist in providing information as to the best way to re-route existing sump pumps at no charge to the owner.
